And then there's the Code. Jason heard about it through his own research and Johnny seems to confirm it. The Code is similar to his own beliefs. You can't stop crime. You can only control it. Trying to stop it is like being Sisyphus rolling a boulder up a mountain. Better to control the underworld from the inside and stop the worst crimes before things get out of hand.
The resources The Society can provide also makes things tempting. Going after the Joker in this world requires him to up his game. Having his own gang again is just one step. The Society might help him go farther.
But Jason's learned a long time ago to be wary of everything, especially with offers that seem too good to be true.
"Ha. I'm flattered. Thanks for the vouch," Jason replies with a still-casual tone. "Gotta say, you guys don't sound so bad so far. But what counts as something going too far for the Code? Murder seems obvious but there's other stuff that I think are as fucked-up. What if I'm not a fan of the mad scientist doing some of those batshit experiments on innocent people?"
