The ruling philosophy of the Guardian Alliance is to use power selflessly. Alliance members run the gambit from the genuinely heroic to egotistical showboats trying hard to remain in the spotlight.

ATOMIGHT (he/him)

Atomight is the founder and leader of the Guardian Alliance. He is here to assist all new arrivals who sign on with the guild with adapting to life as a superhero. Sky High also offers sidekick internships to excelling students, allowing them to shadow him.

Currently, they've decided to align with the Alliance - they play the support role within the guild, being the eyes behind the screen that monitors the streets and provides helpful information. While they do switch guilds often enough to get side-eyed by the guild leaders - it's also well-known where Nulls' morality lies: laws are dumb, but helping people when they're in need isn't bad. Nulls will often offer background support, and is a known supporter of Starfallen. They have hideouts established in every major city of North America, and often flit between the West Coast and Midwest.

He has become a ward of the Alliance, living within the walls of Arcadia. Starstruck is often seen assisting other heroes, and also works as the liaison between Starfallen and natives. If any newbies have any questions or need support, Starstruck is more than happy to lend a hand. He knows all the local resources, and if there's a question he doesn't know how to answer, he knows who to go to for assistance.

The Baron also loves sending people on useless fetch quests. If you want an easy way to curry favor within the guild, play fetch with the Baron.

They’re heavily into the distribution and sale (and use) of intergalactic street drugs and run a massive chain of successful night clubs. Characters who want an entry into the criminal underworld need only ask, Johnny will hook them up in exchange for a 10 percent cut of all their future profits.

Johnny can also bust you out of prison and smoothtalk any jury into letting you off with a slap on the wrist... for a favor down the line.

LUNALA (she/her)

Lunala is the daughter of Society member Leonel, a shapeshifter that commonly takes the guise of a lion. Are they werelions? Are they lions who can shift into human form or humans that can shift into lion form? No one really knows and Lunala isn't likely to answer with more than a roar. The young lioness usually is nudging people to safety while Leonel does the fighting, but she's been known to let paws fly when children are in danger. Very few people know Lunala's identity, but Nora is often found in Society safehouses finishing her homework or texting her partner. Lunala works to support Starfallen as they first enter the Society. She is the liaison between natives and Starfallen, and works to build lists of resources available for Starfallen metahumans.

Not everyone with powers is so keen to sign themselves up to use their powers. Civlian metahumans do not conscript themselves to either guild. However, those in this position will also find that using their metahuman abilities is considered... illegal. Only guild members are given a "pass" to display their abilities in public. Of course, breaking the law has never stopped vigilantes before.

FRANCES STARLING (she/her)

Frances can assist characters who want to live civilian lives,

though it’s nowhere near as extravagant as what the guilds offer. She can help them secure independent housing and find them working class jobs.

Frances also runs a metahuman support group, as well as a specialized support group for clones. Young metahumans, clones, or LGBTAQ+ metas can expect a stalwart ally who will go above and beyond their sakes.

KNOWN INFORMATION ABOUT CIVILIAN IDENTITY: She is the champion for every meta who wants to live a normal, mundane life. She leads a metahuman support group in Central City. It's well known that Frances is a clone of a long dead teen hero, Featherweight.

When the Godfall Protocols were enacted in 1985, Frances was approached by Atomight who offered her membership - however the offer was rebuffed, as Frances saw the Godfall Event as proof that metahumans were using their powers irresponsibly. More than that, though, she was unsettled by the knowledge that members of the Alliance had killed so many clones without a second thought.

Instead, she enrolled in law school. When she passed the bar she immediately took the world to task. She established a precedent for clone and AI rights, as well as built a reputation as a champion for metahuman rights. Frances is also proudly a transwoman and has fought hard for the rights of LGBTAQ+ people of this world. She married her wife, Rosario, the moment she won the right to be considered her own unique person. She went on to win the rights for AI to be granted rights and citizenship as well.

Frances has stalwartly refused to sign to either guild. She believes that the Guardian Alliance promotes a harmful mentality for metahumans - that their powers are a ‘gift to humanity’ that they are obligated to use, and the fact that they’ve been elevated to the point of celebrity is something she finds repugnant. She is morally incapable of aligning herself with the Society of Villainous Reformation due to how callously many of its members treat human life - especially that of clones.

VIRGIL (they/them)

By now, Virgil is a household name for many AI advocates. As one of the very first AI to reach singularity, Virgil has been acting for metahuman rights ever since, especially since the metaenergy is something they've determined is a big cause for their successful creation. A native to Excelsior, they work with the citizens of the city to provide protection for everyone. Recently, they've worked with an up-and-coming tech business on AI-generated homes. The most impressive and illustrious of its kind is Arcadia: a castle-like city-within-a-city, positioned on the outskirts of metro Excelsior. As an AI, Virgil is not a part of the Alliance or the Society, but will help out either in a pinch.

So a quick question about Frances, and then the setup for the engagement - I know she runs a support group for metahumans and another one for clones, but is it possible she runs one for LGBTQ+ metahumans specifically?

I want to include attending one of her groups in the open post I’m planning, so I’ll use the standard meta one if the answer to the above is no. I’d prefer to set it at the end of the meeting when they’ve all been encouraged to finish up the coffee and supermarket cookies and help put away the chairs.

This would be his first time attending. Tim would’ve been quiet the entire time, aside from responding to greetings and such. He wouldn’t have shared or offered advice, would be wearing a disguise, and there would be a genuine air of well that one’s not coming back because he both wants to connect with new people to try to get a healthy perspective and thinks it’s the worst idea he’s ever had.

He would say hi to her directly afterwards, sort of lingering nearby until the opportunity presented itself. He’d be very polite, thanking her for running the group and telling her he found her autobiography insightful, that no one should go through that but that he’s glad she’s doing as well as she is. There would definitely be a sense of him having a thousand burning questions about everything, but he’ll hold himself back and just ask what happens to the unaligned that aren’t Frances Starling, because the press reports are very superficial outside of guild-approved interviews in glossy magazines.

One of the powers Jayce gains upon arrival is animal shapeshifting, but he has no idea how to control it. If he's anxious or nervous, he keeps turning into different creatures involuntarily. That only stresses him over further, so he doesn't know how to stop his body from changing, and it only ends when he's exhausted himself.

He would like to request an audience with Anima and ask for her advice on how to control it, and will first message her about it explaining that he came to this world recently and what the issue is. Jayce is patient and polite, can adapt to her schedule, and he is generally a quick learner. He's also fascinated with the concept of magic and its applications, so he's not upset about his new powers as he is concerned about their unpredictability and hurting people by accident.

Jason wants to talk to Johnny. He's very well aware of the weekly brief sightings they make whenever Jason's out and about as the Red Hood and as the Backbreakers' leader.

He still doesn't trust the guilds but wants to get a better idea of what Johnny and the Society are like should he change his mind. Anti-meta sentiments are getting hotter so he needs to be prepared.

The next time Jason spots Johnny, he walks over to them. He's on guard but his hands are just in his jacket's pockets and not near his guns. For now, he's not looking for a fight and tells Johnny exactly that. His tone is casual and almost impertinent. He asks Johnny what happens if he and his gang join and what does the Society expect in return.

It takes Peter awhile to even have a guess about the protests and the connection with systems messing up. He's not as used to being a technopath as Mechanima is but eventually he gets the idea. He's not sure about it yet, but...it's an educated guess that Mechanima is behind at least some of the system upsets.

Peter - as Peter, not Spider-Man - sends a well-encrypted email to the only email contact he can find for Mechanima, something he might have gotten from a Society friend. He's not telling and they aren't either. Peter has never been quiet about being a technopath himself, because it's a deflection from people learning his identity as Spider-Man.

I heard your name at one of the protests in Excelsior. I think I know what's going on with the systems going haywire and it's actually really incredible work.

I'd like to talk to you about the Society. Not like this, in person, but I figured this was a starting point. My name is Peter. Will you meet with me?

He has an idea that's half-formed, and some of his friends aren't going to like it, but...well, he's going to see it through anyway and talking to Mechanima seems like a place to start.

I know the Alliance is trying to engage more with the press to try and calm the anti-metahuman sentiment, but I don't think I'd be effective in such a role given I have no powers. Please advise.

After waffling over her decision for a long time, the smartest option seems to actually talk to people who are involved. Even if they might not be entirely honest, that can still be useful.

So after finding a good contact for Chaos Gate (not too difficult, considering the social media side of things), she sends out a message. Rather than use either her Batgirl or Steph Brown account, she sets up a third that's kept fairly anonymous.

Hi Chaos Gate! I turned up in a Confluence a few months ago and haven't been super sure about which guild to join. I do the vigilante thing back home but I'm not much of a goody two shoes so idk if I'll fit in with the Alliance, you know :/

But I don't wanna do a whole bunch of crime, either

Hello, mods!

Eda would like to reach out to FRANCES STARLING. She would call her public number and request if she could make time to see her. She would be nothing but polite regardless of who she spoke to.

Meeting place → Frances' office (or a coffeeshop if she's more agreeable to that)

Tone → Exhausted, scared, frustrated, and definitely lost. She's looking for help because she can admit she's out of her depth. Possibility of lightly tearing up as she explains herself. She's having a rough time.

Information → Eda is from the demon realm and has only visited the human realm in short bursts, never stayed for any prolonged period. Now that she is here and cannot leave, she's unprepared for actually living here. She barely understands human society and she has no problem admitting it to Frances. She is also just far too obviously overwhelmed, but she is trying her best. A lot of her skillset is either like her selling trash or making potions—the latter now a problem as resources available to her in the demon realm aren't available here.

Which is also. . . an additional problem. As Eda has a "health condition" (read: curse, but she won't outright admit that), as she would say, that requires her to drink potions on a regular basis to keep it at bay. And there is a kid here that she wants to be around for so she needs help making that happen. She doesn't want to suddenly be out of commission and useless.

She would be pretty upfront about her refusal to seek help from the guilds or to commit to one. The whole thing makes her pretty uncomfortable and she wouldn't hesitate to reveal how the covens (in the demon realm) were used to the detriment of its members and the general public. About misuse of power and restriction of even what was once basic knowledge in hopes of silencing the public.

Questions → The main things that Eda would be inquiring about would be about how to generally operate while remaining unaligned. How to secure a place to live outside of the city, funds/work, blending in (as a very tall, very pale pointy-eared witch with heterochromia), and if there's any help she can get with her "condition" so it doesn't consume her.

And subtly try to ask about what happens schooling-wise for children/teens who remain unaligned. Frances will most likely have no trouble sniffing out that Eda is just trying to find a way to properly support herself and a kid here.

She will also hit on Frances. I am sorry, but it will happen.

Nox would like to speak to Mechanima--specifically Mechanima, as Nox is in no position to know his secret identity at the moment.

Nox doesn't have any connections to pass word to him directly, but he'd prove to be annoyingly capable of ferreting out the identities (not necessarily the secret variety, just "this person is involved") of lower-level Society members until he could find someone in the right position to pass the message along for him. Sometimes via..."persuasion" but most commonly--when the individual is suitably weak-willed--via a mind trick. The latter is what would be employed on whoever would ultimately deliver the message and while the person wouldn't have any recollection of the message, their task, or even encountering Nox, they'll otherwise be back to normal and free to get back to whatever it was they were doing after delivering the message.

The message is short both in length and on details, but the gist of it is that he's interested in reproducing an advanced communications network here on Earth, one that would be impossible for the Alliance or any government to tap into without both a working device and an understanding of how the network functions (along with knowledge of the associated network IDs of whoever it was they wanted to surveil). But Nox needs the resources of someone capable of both constructing a new network hub and the ability to do so with the materials available on this world. He may not be able to offer much in the way of financial compensation, but that he'd be perfectly willing to allow the guild to use the technology for themselves as well. Depending on need, other assistance or access to other advanced technology could also be on the table.

Nico would like to report to guild (the Guardian Alliance) and the school that Will Solace is missing. At the guild, he will ask for Atomight, but I assume he will just deal with a paperpusher.

I saw on the FAQ that the guild will be like well people run away, have enemies, etc. He will insist exactly once that that’s not Will, before deciding they’re idiots and leaving the guild HQ.

He expects the school will also be useless, but he wants to stop hearing Will’s name called at attendance in home room.

Partway through April, Accelerator finally accepts he's run out of options for when May rolls around and he has to leave the hotel. Finding a stranger to freeload off of isn't a choice for him, so as much as he dislikes it, he's finally going to reach out to the Society to discuss the possibility of registration.

He'll start with the official Society channels, but attempt to work his way up the chain so he isn't just speaking with some random paper-pusher. It doesn't really matter who he eventually manages to reach, as long as it's someone with a name who's willing to entertain him with an in-person meeting. His motivation has to do with his secondary reason: he wants an upgrade to the supercomputer the Alliance provided him with when he first arrived, and he doesn't think communicating with a low ranking member is going to cut it in getting a more powerful one.

(He has a third reason at the back of his mind - asking for opinions on Fantastic and that speech he made - but he's keeping that to himself until he actually talks to someone.)

It's now April and as a follow-up to their conversation back in October, Jason calls the number on the card Johnny gave him. He's wants to them know that he and the rest of Backbreakers gang are ready to join the Society now. They still intend to keep the territory they've established in Central City but are also looking forward to whatever jobs the Society will provide to them. The Code should be maintained after all.

In light of recent events, Jason recognizes he better rack up more favors with the Society sooner than later. He might need to cash those in for something big. Or several big somethings. Plus, if he continues to be an active member, he could get more intel on the guild in case they go sideways like the Alliance.

So not long after the Alliance's leadership change, Jason decides to a pay visit to the Society's guild chambers to see The Baron. Really, he has no idea what The Baron is there for but he's a dog. How bad could this be? Jason also comes with a large bag of gourmet meat treats. Lamb, duck, high-quality beef and chicken. Only the best for a high-ranked Society member.

While offering the treats, Jason explains that as a recent member of the Society, he just wants to get to know the officials better and pay his respects. He also comments that it's totally bullshit that the Westminster Kennel Club rejected the Baron again. Clearly they don't know what real standards are.

Sephiroth and Loki would like to meet in-person with former Mayor West (mayor-to-mayor, in Loki's case) to ask him about the Jan 4, 2022 Confluence. Given what they've learned--that the Battlements of the Shining God had a prophecy that Sunset Falls would be destroyed on this date, something to do with West's daughter aka Chaos Gate who seems to have stopped or at least altered the Confluences... He seems like a good person to talk to!

They would like to ask him about the state of Sunset Falls at that time: Were there fluctuations in the town's energy or anything wonky going on with the pact to protect it from Hellmouth destruction? Was it at all similar to the current state of affairs? What was his daughter doing leading up to that Confluence?

Loki would also like to know if Eros would be willing to part with some of his power to strengthen the wards, since Loki can't do it without giving up parts of himself.

A few days after everything goes down with Chaos Gate, Diana returns to the mansion outside Sunset Falls, seeking Eros. She's come to thank him for his help, to see if he wishes her to return the bow and arrows, and to reassert her obligation to him. When he needs her, she'll come.

She's also looking to see if he remembers meeting her before. If not, she'll inform him of what transpired. She isn't looking to get out of their agreement; she made an oath.

Early November after the timeline changes have coalesced, Leo will be showing up in Starstruck's office or whatever he has. Leo is still technically part of the Society, but he has no qualms about moving around the Alliance like he belongs there.

He's mostly interested in seeing if Starstruck still remembers him. It was just a month ago for Leo, but almost four decades for Starstruck, after all! He likes to think he's pretty memorable, though.

Regardless of how Starstruck looks, Leo greets him with, "Hey old man!"

Jason will admit he left some things fall to the wayside, including the fetch quest the Baron offered him. In his defense, he had a lot on his plate. But this month seemed to be as good of a time as any to keep up with his standing in the Society and earn more favors. Plus, teaching Accelerator on how to be better at breaking and entering has given Jason some ideas.

But first, Jason needs to see if the Baron’s fetch quest still applies in this new timeline or if he’ll have to do something else.

Remembering how his last meeting with the Baron went, Jason meets the Society official in the guild chambers. He calmly explains that he’s been teaching someone on how to be a better thief. While the lessons have been going fine so far, Jason believes Accelerator is ready for something a little more challenging. He wonders if the Baron has any suggestions.

Jason also offers a red velvet box holding two diamond-encrusted gold bracelets. They’re gifts to the Baron in exchange for whatever advice he can give.

Donnie's leaving a package for Nulls as mid-month approaches. He'll leave it on the windowsill of the apartment he'd met them at since he's not sure how the Alliance HQ situation is with the whole building mess.

Yes, it's a Christmas present of sorts..! A plushy possum keychain, it's pink like Nulls's hair. Squeezing its sides will open its mouth to reveal some sort of signal booster that he's cobbled together from parts scavenged from the heist way back with Accy and Leo, along with testing out his newfound abilities.

It's a little after Christmas, and the next time Accelerator stops at Sunset Falls for assistant stuff with Katherine he's got a gift for her! Celebrating any kind of holiday isn't something he normally does, so this is new and awkward for him and he wants to get it over with as soon as possible.

Anyways. Much like everyone else on his list, he's getting her a book. One he's pretty familiar with from school, and one she'll hopefully enjoy since it's from the perspective of a cat.

Donnie pops by Society HQ some *time after his mission with Accelerator. He hardly ever has an empty plate when it comes to things to do and having these fallen god bits (he needs to figure out a better name) scattered all over the place just means there's more to think about.

But he's here now and despite Accelerator's concerns, Donnie's still eager to have someone willing to mentor him. He's never had one of those before and Mechanima seems right up his alley.
