NULLS (she/they)
Nulls is a technopath known for switching sides and aliases to whatever suits their needs best at the time. Currently, they've decided to align with the Alliance - they play the support role within the guild, being the eyes behind the screen that monitors the streets and provides helpful information. While they do switch guilds often enough to get side-eyed by the guild leaders - it's also well-known where Nulls' morality lies: laws are dumb, but helping people when they're in need isn't bad. Nulls will often offer background support, and is a known supporter of Starfallen. They have hideouts established in every major city of North America, and often flit between the West Coast and Midwest.

STARSTRUCK (he/him)
Starstruck wasn't meant to exist in this time. A teenager of fifteen back in 1985 when GODFALL had originally happened, he has remained much the same in 2023: he is still fifteen when he should be fifty-three, still bright and full of energy, and still determined to help. He has become a ward of the Alliance, living within the walls of Arcadia. Starstruck is often seen assisting other heroes, and also works as the liaison between Starfallen and natives. If any newbies have any questions or need support, Starstruck is more than happy to lend a hand. He knows all the local resources, and if there's a question he doesn't know how to answer, he knows who to go to for assistance.

of the Society of Villainous Reformation, Mechanima is responsible for keeping everything in working order. If you want to be a villain he'll happily take you under his wings and teach you how to use your powers to get ahead in life. Mechanima himself is a technopath and is here for all your technopathic needs, whether that's hacking government databases to make you a new identity or disabling security for your heists - so long as you're willing to pay up, of course.

RED-EYE (they/them)
Johnny
is a wildcard that thrives on doing whatever the hell they want. They’re heavily into the distribution and sale (and use) of intergalactic street drugs and run a massive chain of successful night clubs. Characters who want an entry into the criminal underworld need only ask, Johnny will hook them up in exchange for a 10 percent cut of all their future profits.
Johnny can also bust you out of prison and smoothtalk any jury into letting you off with a slap on the wrist... for a favor down the line.

KNOWN INFORMATION ABOUT CIVILIAN IDENTITY: Most everything. It's well known that Johnny changes names like Fantastic changes costumes. Their drugs are potent, powerful, and they're so damn good they've got blackmail on nearly everybody.
Johnny is more trouble to jail than they are to corral and so the Alliance tends to let them run free, intervening only when they're being particularly obnoxious or hard to handle.

LUNALA (she/her)
Lunala is the daughter of Society member Leonel, a shapeshifter that commonly takes the guise of a lion. Are they werelions? Are they lions who can shift into human form or humans that can shift into lion form? No one really knows and Lunala isn't likely to answer with more than a roar. The young lioness usually is nudging people to safety while Leonel does the fighting, but she's been known to let paws fly when children are in danger. Very few people know Lunala's identity, but Nora is often found in Society safehouses finishing her homework or texting her partner. Lunala works to support Starfallen as they first enter the Society. She is the liaison between natives and Starfallen, and works to build lists of resources available for Starfallen metahumans.

Not everyone with powers is so keen to sign themselves up to use their powers. Civlian metahumans do not conscript themselves to either guild. However, those in this position will also find that using their metahuman abilities is considered... illegal. Only guild members are given a "pass" to display their abilities in public. Of course, breaking the law has never stopped vigilantes before.
FRANCES STARLING (she/her)
Frances can assist characters who want to live civilian lives,
though it’s nowhere near as extravagant as what the guilds offer. She can help them secure independent housing and find them working class jobs.
Frances also runs a metahuman support group, as well as a specialized support group for clones. Young metahumans, clones, or LGBTAQ+ metas can expect a stalwart ally who will go above and beyond their sakes.
CIVILIAN NAME: Frances Starling
IDENTITY: Public, she disavowed the "Featherfall" identity years ago
PRONOUNS: She/Her
AGE: 40, Physically and mentally 60
MORAL ALIGNMENT: Lawful Good
SPECIES: CLONE / ENHANCED HUMAN
POWERS: Flight (Bird Wings), Sonic Scream, Enhanced Strength
KNOWN INFORMATION ABOUT CIVILIAN IDENTITY: She is the champion for every meta who wants to live a normal, mundane life. She leads a metahuman support group in Central City. It's well known that Frances is a clone of a long dead teen hero, Featherweight.
When the Godfall Protocols were enacted in 1985, Frances was approached by Atomight who offered her membership - however the offer was rebuffed, as Frances saw the Godfall Event as proof that metahumans were using their powers irresponsibly. More than that, though, she was unsettled by the knowledge that members of the Alliance had killed so many clones without a second thought.
Instead, she enrolled in law school. When she passed the bar she immediately took the world to task. She established a precedent for clone and AI rights, as well as built a reputation as a champion for metahuman rights. Frances is also proudly a transwoman and has fought hard for the rights of LGBTAQ+ people of this world. She married her wife, Rosario, the moment she won the right to be considered her own unique person. She went on to win the rights for AI to be granted rights and citizenship as well.
Frances has stalwartly refused to sign to either guild. She believes that the Guardian Alliance promotes a harmful mentality for metahumans - that their powers are a ‘gift to humanity’ that they are obligated to use, and the fact that they’ve been elevated to the point of celebrity is something she finds repugnant. She is morally incapable of aligning herself with the Society of Villainous Reformation due to how callously many of its members treat human life - especially that of clones.

VIRGIL (they/them)
By now, Virgil is a household name for many AI advocates. As one of the very first AI to reach singularity, Virgil has been acting for metahuman rights ever since, especially since the metaenergy is something they've determined is a big cause for their successful creation. A native to Excelsior, they work with the citizens of the city to provide protection for everyone. Recently, they've worked with an up-and-coming tech business on AI-generated homes. The most impressive and illustrious of its kind is Arcadia: a castle-like city-within-a-city, positioned on the outskirts of metro Excelsior. As an AI, Virgil is not a part of the Alliance or the Society, but will help out either in a pinch.
CIVILIAN NAME: VIRGIL
IDENTITY: VIRGIL
PRONOUNS: they/them

KNOWN INFORMATION ABOUT CIVILIAN IDENTITY: VIRGIL is a long-lived AI, one of the first and thus most evolved—not as in advanced, but because they've been through a lot of iterations. Originally designed to help advance technology in Excelsior, Virgil's focus has changed and directed more toward civil rights. They're excellent at creating connections with many up-and-comers and using those connections to help those who are in need. Their community, Arcadia, is open to all comers, and Virgil is currently actively working to help all Starfallen integrate into society.

CHAOS GATE (she/her)
With her friendly
and carefree nature, she’s extremely likely to help player characters with any schemes they may want to hatch without expecting much in return. Anyone who wants learn magic is also welcome to take lessons from her.

Date: 2022-08-20 01:31 pm (UTC)I want to include attending one of her groups in the open post I’m planning, so I’ll use the standard meta one if the answer to the above is no. I’d prefer to set it at the end of the meeting when they’ve all been encouraged to finish up the coffee and supermarket cookies and help put away the chairs.
This would be his first time attending. Tim would’ve been quiet the entire time, aside from responding to greetings and such. He wouldn’t have shared or offered advice, would be wearing a disguise, and there would be a genuine air of well that one’s not coming back because he both wants to connect with new people to try to get a healthy perspective and thinks it’s the worst idea he’s ever had.
He would say hi to her directly afterwards, sort of lingering nearby until the opportunity presented itself. He’d be very polite, thanking her for running the group and telling her he found her autobiography insightful, that no one should go through that but that he’s glad she’s doing as well as she is. There would definitely be a sense of him having a thousand burning questions about everything, but he’ll hold himself back and just ask what happens to the unaligned that aren’t Frances Starling, because the press reports are very superficial outside of guild-approved interviews in glossy magazines.

Date: 2022-08-23 03:07 am (UTC)People like Tim aren't uncommon at these meetings. It's hard being both a meta and queer and so, though she will be paying closer attention to him than most as he's a new face in a very vulnerable group, she'll be welcoming and supportive.
When he approaches her with that line of questioning, though, she just looks... tired. She will say that most unaffiliated metas usually live very normal lives. The ones with more physical manifestations of their powers (and she'll stretch out a wing for emphasis) have a much harder time, because they can't just blend in and pretend to be like everyone else. Humanity is selfish, demanding anyone different to try to blend in lest they be hammered down. Sunset Falls is a fine place to live if you don't mind the constant hauntings. She'll also make mention of Xinthal, a meta-made country on a remote island, for those who want to live only among other metahumans and humans who accept them. She's helped more than a few people immigrate there and if that's a concern he holds, especially with the rising anti-meta sentiments due to the confluences and chaos created, then she's happy to assist.
And then she pauses. She's certain that that isn't what he actually wants to ask about. She makes it very clear that while she has her issues with the guilds, she is even warier of unaffiliated meta vigilantism. It's one thing to protect your community - that she supports, but its another to appoint yourself an authority that answers to no one. She lived through that era and though she has her issues with the guilds and heroism in general, she states it is better with their systems in play. The villains weren't the only ones causing unnecessary casualties.
But she'll state upfront that Guilds aren't the problem. They aren't the ones to fear. The guilds were put in place to means to protect metahumans from being drafted into the military and weaponized. Or imprisoned because they were considered to be too dangerous.
But with the way things are going, it's only a matter of time before the government decides the guilds aren't working. And they'll go for the unaffiliated meta vigilantes first, use them as examples and villainize them. And she'll represent them in court, and fight for them, but the deck will be stacked so heavily against them that she doubts she'd win any case. From there they might be forced to join the Alliance or the Society, or they might end up disappearing without a trace to the maximum security metahuman prisons that, until recently, had been decommissioned at the founding of the guilds.
And she'll stare him down. And tell him to be very, very careful. Because the landscape is changing rapidly, and she's concerned that offworlders don't understand the delicate balance they're threatening to upend.

Date: 2022-09-27 06:34 pm (UTC)One of the powers Jayce gains upon arrival is animal shapeshifting, but he has no idea how to control it. If he's anxious or nervous, he keeps turning into different creatures involuntarily. That only stresses him over further, so he doesn't know how to stop his body from changing, and it only ends when he's exhausted himself.
He would like to request an audience with Anima and ask for her advice on how to control it, and will first message her about it explaining that he came to this world recently and what the issue is. Jayce is patient and polite, can adapt to her schedule, and he is generally a quick learner. He's also fascinated with the concept of magic and its applications, so he's not upset about his new powers as he is concerned about their unpredictability and hurting people by accident.

Anima will gladly accept Jayce's request. For her part she is professional and polite, perfectly poised at all times. She'll comment that she's glad he appears to be taking the task of mastering his new abilities seriously. To walk between the human and animal worlds is a gift.
While she can't guarantee session dates - her schedule as second in command is chaotic, to say the least - she will tentatively book sessions for Tuesday evenings with him. Magic is not something she's terribly well versed in, but she can also arrange an appointment with THE SILENT MYSTIC for any lessons he may desire. She will warn him that she may lack many of the soft skills being a teacher requires, but she is *incredibly* thorough. When she's done with him, he'll be able to fully embody the entire animal kingdom.

Date: 2022-10-01 11:46 pm (UTC)He still doesn't trust the guilds but wants to get a better idea of what Johnny and the Society are like should he change his mind. Anti-meta sentiments are getting hotter so he needs to be prepared.
The next time Jason spots Johnny, he walks over to them. He's on guard but his hands are just in his jacket's pockets and not near his guns. For now, he's not looking for a fight and tells Johnny exactly that. His tone is casual and almost impertinent. He asks Johnny what happens if he and his gang join and what does the Society expect in return.
no subject
Date: 2022-10-13 05:51 am (UTC)They say that The Society expects only that their rules are followed. That's it. The former name, the full name - The Society of Villainous Reformation, was a bit of an inside joke. But it means what it means. They're villains who keep other villains from getting out of hand, and causing the kind of shit that's been going on the last fucking year. They bring as much order to the chaos as they can - and yeah, he'll be sharing air with guys who like to do batshit insane science experiments to innocent people - but he's also one of the guys standing there making sure they don't get out of hand. M
They say Jason pay dues if he does any jobs requiring guild resources. The is a little red tape involved - an unspoken agreement that jobs be run by The Society before being enacted, to ensure no superheroes have friends or family in the vicinity of something particularly lethal. Johnny clicks their tongue and says there was way, way too much of that in the old days. Revenge is a young person's game, and the people that want those games back are too stupid to know how good they got it.
That aside, Johnny says there's the expectation to follow The Code. Joining is understanding that if you break it, you're dead... really, they should've cleaned his clock already. Before confluences started up, that's primarily what Johnny did. Knock out the Codebreakers. Make the world a better place and all that cum-buy-yah shit. Doing unauthorized meta crime is not allowed. But Johnny likes Jason. Likes his spark! That can-do can-kill attitude is refreshing. So they vouched for him a lil.
And moreover, they lean in conspiratorially. And admit they figure if they have any hope of getting shit back on track, him and his little ragtag group of misfits might be the cleanup crew they need. So, Jason might get some project work slid his way pretty quickly. Hit jobs on metas aiming fuck up things more for all of them. Nice payouts and favors from high on up.

Date: 2022-10-03 03:36 am (UTC)Peter - as Peter, not Spider-Man - sends a well-encrypted email to the only email contact he can find for Mechanima, something he might have gotten from a Society friend. He's not telling and they aren't either. Peter has never been quiet about being a technopath himself, because it's a deflection from people learning his identity as Spider-Man.
I heard your name at one of the protests in Excelsior. I think I know what's going on with the systems going haywire and it's actually really incredible work.
I'd like to talk to you about the Society. Not like this, in person, but I figured this was a starting point. My name is Peter. Will you meet with me?
He has an idea that's half-formed, and some of his friends aren't going to like it, but...well, he's going to see it through anyway and talking to Mechanima seems like a place to start.

Date: 2022-10-13 06:04 am (UTC)I've had my eye on you for a while now, kid. I hope you got that couch surfing situation resolved.
Ordinarily I'd say no to what could be an obvious trap, but what the hell.
The reply comes with an encrypted file. It's a little test of sorts. Once decrypted, it contains GPS coordinates and a time later that day. Those coordinates lead to a run down coffee shop in Central City.
If Peter chooses to go, he'll be escorted to an elevator and taken to the top floor of the building by a friendly barista. This floor is vastly different - there are metahumans of all shapes and sizes here, quietly enjoying a fancy meal. Peter will be lead to a private booth where the man himself sits, sifting through a pile of paperwork. He'll smile at Peter's approach, gesturing to the empty seat across from him and invites him to order anything from the menu.
It's... an interesting menu, to say the least. Human blood is definitely on that list. But so is your every day average soda brands.

Date: 2022-10-19 06:18 pm (UTC)Not sure if you're the one I need to talk to, but I just recently joined up with the Alliance and would like some clarification on part of our apparent duties. I know the Alliance is trying to engage more with the press to try and calm the anti-metahuman sentiment, but I don't think I'd be effective in such a role given I have no powers. Please advise.
Mentally crossing his fingers that it means he's exempt, but always best to ask.

Date: 2022-10-27 11:46 pm (UTC)Eventually the reply does come.
Members of the Alliance are not required to do any work they are uncomfortable with.
Six may have the impression that while the sentiment may be Atomight's, the words may be filtered through someone else. There is a delay of twenty minutes before the next message comes through.
It would be easier to discuss this in person if you are comfortable.

Date: 2022-11-29 02:47 am (UTC)So after finding a good contact for Chaos Gate (not too difficult, considering the social media side of things), she sends out a message. Rather than use either her Batgirl or Steph Brown account, she sets up a third that's kept fairly anonymous.
Hi Chaos Gate! I turned up in a Confluence a few months ago and haven't been super sure about which guild to join. I do the vigilante thing back home but I'm not much of a goody two shoes so idk if I'll fit in with the Alliance, you know :/
But I don't wanna do a whole bunch of crime, either
You seem to have a pretty good idea of what's going on in the world, so I'm hoping you might be able to help a gal out? Is there room in the Society for people that fall in between hero and villain?
Thanks!
- Spoiler
Sorry for the delay, winter KOed a few of us
Date: 2023-01-30 05:22 am (UTC)This is because there is always risk of these Starfallen heroes might leak the Society's true ethos to the public. Someone might not appreciate their unique position in society.
In her message back, Chaos Gate will emphasize that the most important part of her guild's emphasis is freedom from responsibility, and a lack of an obligation to use powers for others.
The Society's most important tenant is self-determination and that can look like a lot of things. There are a lot of paths someone can take that skirt around the expectations society has for metas. There is a place for Steph in the Society if she's pursuing her own self-interest instead of dedicating herself to protect a population that believes she owes them something.
That said, it's a bit of a conflict of interest if she joins the Society and is obviously superheroing with do-gooders in the Alliance. After all, they need to trust that she's not just playing big brother for the Alliance, don't they? The supervillains in the Society might resent an Alliance member that's there clearly spying on their every move.
(That doesn't mean that Steph can't do some good but Chaos Gate is sure making it sound like it needs to not be so obviously heroic.)
If she joins, she does need to be dedicated to the best interests in the reformation of the Society's villains and of course that means them being shown trust in their process of rehabilitation. So perhaps it wouldn't be best for her to be seen doing buddy-buddy hero stuff.
Still, the Society ultimately believes in the freedom of being a little selfish and throwing off at least some measure of the control people want to have on metas. She doesn't necessarily need to go on a crime spree to do that. As long as she presents the image of someone trying to reform from evil for the nosy, and as long as she doesn't actually really work for the Alliance's interests, there may be a place for her.

Date: 2023-01-16 01:40 am (UTC)Eda would like to reach out to FRANCES STARLING. She would call her public number and request if she could make time to see her. She would be nothing but polite regardless of who she spoke to.
Meeting place → Frances' office (or a coffeeshop if she's more agreeable to that)
Tone → Exhausted, scared, frustrated, and definitely lost. She's looking for help because she can admit she's out of her depth. Possibility of lightly tearing up as she explains herself. She's having a rough time.
Information → Eda is from the demon realm and has only visited the human realm in short bursts, never stayed for any prolonged period. Now that she is here and cannot leave, she's unprepared for actually living here. She barely understands human society and she has no problem admitting it to Frances. She is also just far too obviously overwhelmed, but she is trying her best. A lot of her skillset is either like her selling trash or making potions—the latter now a problem as resources available to her in the demon realm aren't available here.
Which is also. . . an additional problem. As Eda has a "health condition" (read: curse, but she won't outright admit that), as she would say, that requires her to drink potions on a regular basis to keep it at bay. And there is a kid here that she wants to be around for so she needs help making that happen. She doesn't want to suddenly be out of commission and useless.
She would be pretty upfront about her refusal to seek help from the guilds or to commit to one. The whole thing makes her pretty uncomfortable and she wouldn't hesitate to reveal how the covens (in the demon realm) were used to the detriment of its members and the general public. About misuse of power and restriction of even what was once basic knowledge in hopes of silencing the public.
Questions → The main things that Eda would be inquiring about would be about how to generally operate while remaining unaligned. How to secure a place to live outside of the city, funds/work, blending in (as a very tall, very pale pointy-eared witch with heterochromia), and if there's any help she can get with her "condition" so it doesn't consume her.
And subtly try to ask about what happens schooling-wise for children/teens who remain unaligned. Frances will most likely have no trouble sniffing out that Eda is just trying to find a way to properly support herself and a kid here.
She will also hit on Frances. I am sorry, but it will happen.
no subject
Date: 2023-01-30 05:28 am (UTC)She offers a lot of clear sympathy for Eda's situation and the experiences he went through. She doesn't beat around the bush and says can tell she's a parent or trying to be a guardian of a child or teen. It's hard to be a single parent or guardian in the best of circumstances, in a world she's familiar with, let alone one that's alien to her.
She emphasizes that the easiest way to care for them and get things she needs, like help with her condition, is to accept the Alliance's offer. While there are definitely problems with the Alliance and the world's attitude towards metas, for the desperate, that might be the best route. At least until she can get on her feet or get transported home for good.
The Alliance came into existence for a reason and there are many in it that would be genuinely willing to help.
That said, she understands how that might not be viable if the situation would just constantly re-traumatize her. That can be a terrible way to live. She gives her the cards of several magic-based meta contacts she knows. Most of them are located in Sunset Falls and most of them are non-guild. She tells her Sunset Falls has an entire underground community of sentient magical creatures, heroes that fight hostile magical threats, and magic users.
There's potential there to learn Earth's magic systems (if it turns out she's able to attune to them) or apprentice to those who make magical goods. For instance, there are those who make potions or amulets for the use of magical heroes that fight supernatural evil, and they might be seeking an apprentice or assistant. The pay wouldn't be stellar but it would probably be in cash and might be enough to support herself and a dependent, plus she'd learn skills that are relevant to Earth's magic. There might also be the benefit of said employer being able to help her with her...condition. Or provide some kind of amulet of illusion to make her stand out less.
That said, if she relocates to Sunset Falls, the people of Sunset Falls are used to some people being a little...odd. More so than many other towns or cities. If she hides her ears, it's possible that nobody will ask questions about a pale, tall person with heterochromia.
Housing would possibly also be easier for her there if she's going without the Alliance's help. Renting some rooms or a lightly haunted house from someone in the supernatural community might not require any documentation.
She does have to be careful, though. Sunset Falls has a reputation of sinister magical activity that sometimes preys on the local community of magically and supernaturally-inclined individuals. People have disappeared and there are rumors in the magical hero community about some kind of cult. There are also those that secretly practice dark arts that might try to take advantage. She recommends asking the contacts for specific recommendations on safe employers.
As for schooling...that's a tough one. Frances makes it clear that it's still ultimately easiest for a child to get what they need if they're officially part of the systems of the world. If they're a meta, it can also benefit them to go to the meta school for the important task of learning how to use their powers. If her charge is Starfallen and goes a non-Alliance route like her, they'll have no documentation either. Most schools require children to have a social security number. There are online ones but they require the same.
But if she's absolutely dedicated to the idea of being independent from the guilds due to her understandably traumatic experiences (or if her charge has the same trauma), she can always look into home-schooling resources. There are materials she can buy to use to educate her charge. There are also online lesson websites that don't require any sort of official registration. Homeschooling might also make it easier for her to slip in expertise that's more relevant to her world, too, if her charge is from the same one.
The only caveat is if they seek a future on Earth they'd have to take a test called a GED to show they received a full education, and that would be impossible if they don't have a social.
Still, if her goal is just to make sure the minor she's guarding receives an education until a way is found to send the Starfallen home, home-schooling and online study that isn't an official online high school is an option. She writes down a few educational websites that might help or might aggregate some recommendations.
She reminds her she also has one other possible resource: Other Starfallen. Many of them seem to be helping one another and they may be able to offer her aid. Even guild members might provide it without her being guild. They might be able to heal or treat her condition or provide devices that create illusions.
As for Eda hitting on her, she just smiles and holds up her hand to reveal a gold wedding ring, then tells her unfortunately she's thirty years too late and that her wife probably wouldn't approve.

Date: 2023-02-05 06:53 pm (UTC)Nox doesn't have any connections to pass word to him directly, but he'd prove to be annoyingly capable of ferreting out the identities (not necessarily the secret variety, just "this person is involved") of lower-level Society members until he could find someone in the right position to pass the message along for him. Sometimes via..."persuasion" but most commonly--when the individual is suitably weak-willed--via a mind trick. The latter is what would be employed on whoever would ultimately deliver the message and while the person wouldn't have any recollection of the message, their task, or even encountering Nox, they'll otherwise be back to normal and free to get back to whatever it was they were doing after delivering the message.
The message is short both in length and on details, but the gist of it is that he's interested in reproducing an advanced communications network here on Earth, one that would be impossible for the Alliance or any government to tap into without both a working device and an understanding of how the network functions (along with knowledge of the associated network IDs of whoever it was they wanted to surveil). But Nox needs the resources of someone capable of both constructing a new network hub and the ability to do so with the materials available on this world. He may not be able to offer much in the way of financial compensation, but that he'd be perfectly willing to allow the guild to use the technology for themselves as well. Depending on need, other assistance or access to other advanced technology could also be on the table.
no subject
Date: 2023-04-01 01:25 am (UTC)If Nox is capable of creating the network, or brings someone along with him to help code and encrypt it, Mechanima will provide all tools to create it. This includes a location they can use to keep the hardware. He will offer the assistance of one of his own, Techno (a technopath, who would have thought?) into building the network, but informs Nox that if he wants to create a separate network, away from Alliance or government eyes, Mechanima cannot be involved. On this last note, he will provide no further explanation, though Nox can feel free to ask about it or pursue now or at some point in the future.
He will let Nox know that in addition to providing the network technology for the society, Mechanima requires an IOU from Nox to provide the necessary tools, and the assistance of Techno. He doesn't specify what this favor is, nor will he, if he's asked; Nox will be informed when Mechanima decides to cash it in.
Let us know how Nox decides to go about this, and if he decides to pursue the separate network.

It doesn't really matter who he eventually manages to reach, as long as it's someone with a name who's willing to entertain him with an in-person meeting. His motivation has to do with his secondary reason: he wants an upgrade to the supercomputer the Alliance provided him with when he first arrived, and he doesn't think communicating with a low ranking member is going to cut it in getting a more powerful one.
(He has a third reason at the back of his mind - asking for opinions on Fantastic and that speech he made - but he's keeping that to himself until he actually talks to someone.)

Once he's finished, Mechanima's office door opens, and he waves Accelerator on through from his desk, several meters away from the door itself. He asks Accelerator what he can do for him, tone behind the mask clearly bemused.

Noooooo apocalypse-types, that’s a little too advanced. But! We have a mass murderer or two that we could really use some clean-up on.”
A few moments later, Jason is granted access to The Society’s online network. Along with that, he’s giving a document containing the details on a metahuman serial killer. Unaffiliated - they’d refused to join, refused the Code, and unlike the Starfallen they were born here. Ergo, they are beholden to these rules. They were okay with leaving him be right up until he started killing real sloppily.
“The moment this guy toed outta line he was dead,” Johnny says brightly. “So, here’s how this is going to work. This guy - pyrokinetic, real firebug, and he’s got a crew, not gonna lie, they all kinda suck powers wise but there’s enougha them that it’ll be a pain in the ass. And all of ‘em gotta go. So, you bump the guy off, gimme some proof of death - none of that head on a platter shit, we’re not medieval here - I mean like a photo, or call me and I’ll have someone confirm. You gotta call me anyway, ‘cause I gotta send our clean-up crew to the coordinates. Badda-bing, badda-boom, you get paid and I got one less scumbag sucking air to worry about.”
Johnny snaps their fingers for emphasis.
“You got to the end of next month. Lemme know if you got any questions.”
Along with that, Johnny sends some other files along. Goodwill, they call it. Little things Jason can do to improve their territory for the baseline humans living there. Johnny doesn’t sound enthused about it, but with how things are going, they figure anything they can do to improve public opinion is a good idea.

Date: 2023-05-20 01:27 am (UTC)So not long after the Alliance's leadership change, Jason decides to a pay visit to the Society's guild chambers to see The Baron. Really, he has no idea what The Baron is there for but he's a dog. How bad could this be? Jason also comes with a large bag of gourmet meat treats. Lamb, duck, high-quality beef and chicken. Only the best for a high-ranked Society member.
While offering the treats, Jason explains that as a recent member of the Society, he just wants to get to know the officials better and pay his respects. He also comments that it's totally bullshit that the Westminster Kennel Club rejected the Baron again. Clearly they don't know what real standards are.

Still, he’s not trying to bite Jason. Though there is a touch of a growl on his lips. There’s something calculating about the way he licks his lips, rising to his paws and turning with the expectation that Jason will follow.
How about we play a little game of ‘fetch’ so you can prove your worth? He stops at his desk, hopping up on his hind legs and dropping his impressive paws against the table. I lost a toy of mine a while back. It’s currently being held in the vaults of the first bank. If you can get in and out with all your limbs in tact, I’ll allow you a second chance at introductions.

Date: 2023-08-25 11:52 pm (UTC)They would like to ask him about the state of Sunset Falls at that time: Were there fluctuations in the town's energy or anything wonky going on with the pact to protect it from Hellmouth destruction? Was it at all similar to the current state of affairs? What was his daughter doing leading up to that Confluence?
Loki would also like to know if Eros would be willing to part with some of his power to strengthen the wards, since Loki can't do it without giving up parts of himself.

Date: 2023-09-02 05:07 am (UTC)1. Loki and Sephiroth will have some trouble getting in touch with old Mayor West – not particularly from the standpoint of being able to find him, but an silly little issue of scheduling. For a retired mayor, it seems like he's ridiculously hard to catch. When they do finally catch up to him, he tries to hurry back into his house from the porch before they catch him. He'll be reluctant to talk; he's not cagey, just tired.
With a suffering sigh he'll tell them yes, there were fluctuations in the ley line energy during that time, mostly related to the precarious nature of Sunset Falls. He was the one who went to work with the ley lines to stabilize the energy. Once Loki took the mantle as Mayor, his duty to Sunset Falls was relieved.
As for Kate, he can't account fully for her whereabouts. She was in Little Love, Kansas, following up with a client. He'll mention that she had been particularly nostalgic at that time, talking about the "golden days of metahumans" on vlog after vlog. During that time, she had been dating a big name hero, and he attributed to that. He'll then confess that he had no idea that she was Chaos Gate, though he suspects that his absence as Mayor may have lead to her feeling neglected in some way. At this point, he'll start to shut down the conversation, and he won't be very willing to invite them back.
2. Unfortunately, Eros does not have the energy to spare to strengthen those wards. The light of love and tangle of relationships hasn't really been at the forefront of people's minds, lately. In his weakened state, he can't offer Loki anything. Loki will have to make do with what he can, himself. Hellmouth is Loki's responsibility now.

Date: 2023-10-12 09:16 pm (UTC)He remembers meeting her previously; four decades is nothing to a god, after all, although he had been wondering where she had disappeared off to. He'll tell her that he had an inkling that after her mission was over, he would lose track of her for a little while. But she had completed the mission, and he'll congratulate her all the same.
He will tell her that she is welcome to keep the bow and arrow - after all, she had promised to be his Champion, and that vow remains even in this century. Currently, everything feels a little too quiet, which is concerning to him. However, this does also mean that at this time, he doesn't need to send his Champion out to complete tasks for him. He has a feeling that this may change at any time, especially given how suspiciously quiet it is, and he tells her this, too.
The Hellmouth in the high school of Sunset Falls may need a new guardian, but he also informs her that Mayor Loki is who she'll need to speak to regarding that. Someone had previously been irritating Cerberus by throwing things into the Hellmouth, but that, too, has been overly quiet lately. Like the world is holding its breath. . or maybe it's breathing a sigh of relief.

Date: 2023-11-01 06:51 pm (UTC)He's mostly interested in seeing if Starstruck still remembers him. It was just a month ago for Leo, but almost four decades for Starstruck, after all! He likes to think he's pretty memorable, though.
Regardless of how Starstruck looks, Leo greets him with, "Hey old man!"
no subject
Date: 2023-11-03 08:58 pm (UTC)Recognition still sparks behind his eyes when Leo approaches, and he offers a wide grin. Throws an arm over Leo's shoulder if allowed, and he'll begin leading Leo off towards the arcade room towards the back of the first floor. "Hey! It's been... how long has it been? A while, right? Man, it's nice to see you again! That was crazy, wasn't it? The whole... mess of it all, you know." If allowed to ramble on, he'll tell Leo about how the last several years have been.
How weird it is that he just stopped growing older after that day, how he graduated school, but given he hadn't gotten any older, had just--run out of options on keeping a secret ID, so he'd reached out to Atomight who had been working on building up the Alliance around then. How Atomight had offered him a place in his family home for a few years, which had been great, but Starstruck knew he could be doing more, so he moved into the Alliance HQ when it'd been built, and then into Arcadia when the otherworlders had started arriving so he could lend a hand and protect them.

Date: 2023-11-02 03:18 am (UTC)But first, Jason needs to see if the Baron’s fetch quest still applies in this new timeline or if he’ll have to do something else.
Remembering how his last meeting with the Baron went, Jason meets the Society official in the guild chambers. He calmly explains that he’s been teaching someone on how to be a better thief. While the lessons have been going fine so far, Jason believes Accelerator is ready for something a little more challenging. He wonders if the Baron has any suggestions.
Jason also offers a red velvet box holding two diamond-encrusted gold bracelets. They’re gifts to the Baron in exchange for whatever advice he can give.
no subject
Date: 2023-11-08 05:32 am (UTC)As for something a little more challenging... He has just the thing. He's been needing someone a little more low profile to do a job for him. One that hinges on stealth, quick thinking, and the willingness to show your bite is far worse than your bark.
There is a space exhibit opening up in Excelsior. While it isn't anything terribly remarkable, it did manage to uncover something the Baron is... concerned by. Recently an object fell to earth. How, he doesn't know, but he heard it as it fell from the sky and researchers grabbed it before the Society was able to. It is a weapon that he would very much like to have his paws on. The fools don't realize what they have in their possession - they know it's a weapon, but they do not know the sheer capacity it has.
The difficult part, the Baron explains, is that he's not the only one who wants it. Jason and Accelerator will need to work against the building's security, the hired security firm, and the sworn enemy of Baron von Borzoi - a thief that goes by the name Felicity Slaughterclaws, Scourge of the Stars, Whisker of Trinkets.
His sworn enemy that also fell and stranded themselves on Earth, and they have never agreed to abide by Society law. The moment they see someone making a move on the exhibit, they will co-opt the operation and try to take it for themselves. That is why he has not made a move on it himself, believing it would be best in neutral territory where the fiendish feline cannot get her claws on it.
If they can break in and steal the object - a small, oblong flute called the Canem Sibilus - then they'll have proved themselves to be truly Dog's Best Friend. A title he does not provide lightly.

Date: 2024-02-02 05:42 am (UTC)At least until the next diaster. He feels like he's aged decades in the last two years. Still, he has young minds to mentor. One mind in particular today. With the loss of Katherine as his right hand - a world away, one he misses sometimes - he's been sorely in need of someone both capable and willing to take initiative.
What remains to be seen is whether or not the young meta is up for all being in the Society is. It's not all fun and games, parties and moments of heroism. It can be filthy... but he doesn't have to see the extent.
Donnie is ushered into the office where Mechanima awaits, tea set out for the both of them. How he drinks it through the mask is a mystery absolutely none have the courage to solve or ask about, but there's a cup set out for him all the same. The eyes of his mask light up as the doors open, flashing colors in greeting. He gestures to the other cup on the other side of his desk, mask flashing into a smiling emoji.
"I figured we could start with a talk over tea. Break the ice a little, so to speak."
